# Errors

> Every sign-in, key and GitHub connection failure, and how to fix it.

Products relay these messages as they are. A product's own refusals are on its errors page: [Harwell](https://docs.metaphi.ai/harwell/errors.md), [Kennet API](https://docs.metaphi.ai/kennet/api/errors.md).

## Access

| Message | Cause | Fix |
| - | - | - |
| `<email> is not approved for <resource>; ask Metaphi to approve you, then sign in again` | Your account holds nothing on that product | [Request access](https://docs.metaphi.ai/account/access.md), then sign in again |

## Credentials

| Response | Cause | Fix |
| - | - | - |
| `401` with `WWW-Authenticate` | No credential, an expired sign-in, or an unknown or revoked key | Sign in from your client, or send a live key as `Authorization: Bearer mai_sk_...` |
| `503` `{"error":"unanswered","message":"the organization key could not be checked: <why>"}` | The organization key could not be checked | Retry |

The Kennet API returns these as `missing_api_key`, `invalid_api_key`, `no_organization` and `auth_unavailable`. See [Kennet API errors](https://docs.metaphi.ai/kennet/api/errors.md#codes).

## Sign-in

| `Sign-in did not finish. Try again.` | Sign in again |
| `Your session ended. Sign in again.` | Sign in again |
| `GitHub did not grant the sign-in; sign in again` | Sign in again and approve on GitHub's page |
| `GitHub did not say who you are; sign in again in a moment` | Sign in again in a moment |
| `GitHub shared no verified email for this account: verify one at https://github.com/settings/emails, or continue with Google` | Verify an email on GitHub, or sign in with Google |
| `addresses on <domain> belong to an organization whose people sign in with Google: continue with Google` | Sign in with Google |
| `an account at <email> is already here: open <link>, choose Continue with Google and pick <email>; GitHub connects to that account` | Follow the sentence |
| `an account at <email> is already here, on a domain its organization signs in with Google: open <link>, choose Continue with Google and pick <email>; GitHub connects to that account` | Follow the sentence |
